Up until September of this year my dad, Derryl had been operating the company on his own. I watched him take the jump to start a business from scratch when I was 15. I remember listening to his plans to buy a roaster; it would be installed in the back room of our house sort of like a wood stove with a chimney. He would import green coffee, roast it and sell it.
I must admit that I was a bit sceptical. At this time I knew nothing about coffee and thought my dad was a bit nuts. But to my surprise coffee had been trending in big cities in North America for some time.I am now 20 and committed to the small business started by my dad. He has given me an opportunity that few people have at my age. I have the opportunity to be creative and have input into a business that can grow and really make a difference in the community. Coffee is a treasured part of our culture, but it is our mission to make fair and healthy coffee the norm.
